For the longest time, I wanted to make a trip to Southeast Asia. I have always been interested in the culture, way of life and cuisine of that area of the world because it is so different from what we encounter in the United States.

For a few years, I have had it in the back of my mind to book a trip to Asia, but I kept putting it off for various reasons. On November 24, 2013, my life experienced a tragic loss when my father was killed in a car accident caused by an impaired driver. My mom and I have dealt with a lot of sadness and anger in the months following my father’s death, so we were looking for something that would take our minds off of the pain.

My mom is an English instructor at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, N.C. She learned of a trip one of her colleagues was leading to the countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand through an educational travel company called Explorica.

The trip took place in May 2014, and I am happy to say that we had a great time and came home in one piece! I enjoyed my experience so much that I am planning to make a return trip to Southeast Asia in the near future.

I decided to create this site as a way to create a record of our trip and to share photos with family and friends. I hope you enjoy what you see.
